What Is Pluralistic Counselling?
Pluralistic counselling is a flexible and collaborative approach to talking therapy. It recognises that different people may need different things from counselling and that no single approach will be right for everyone.
Our sessions provide a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space where we can work together on whatever may be troubling you. This might involve exploring difficult thoughts and feelings, understanding recurring patterns, coping with a particular problem or identifying areas in which you would like to grow. Each session is shaped around your individual needs rather than following a fixed programme.
Pluralistic counselling draws on ideas and techniques from several established therapeutic approaches. This allows us to consider what may be most helpful for you at a particular time. Your needs may also change during counselling as new perspectives emerge, your understanding deepens or different concerns become more important.
You do not need any previous knowledge of counselling approaches or to know which one might suit you. We can consider that together as part of the process. We can also regularly discuss what feels helpful and whether anything needs to change. Your views and preferences are an important part of shaping our work.
As your counsellor, I will not tell you what you should do or decide what change ought to look like. I believe you are the person who knows yourself best, even when you feel uncertain or unable to see a way forward. My role is to listen carefully; help you explore what may lie beneath your difficulties and support you in developing greater personal insight. Together, we can look for choices and ways forward that fit your values, circumstances and sense of who you are.
If you would like to learn more, please follow the Pluralistic Practice link or get in touch with me through the Contact tab above.
Every session is individual and tailored to your changing needs.
