  • Call 999 or go to A&E if you or someone else is in immediate danger.
  • Call NHS 24 on 111 and choose the mental health option if you need urgent mental health support.
  • Contact your GP practice and explain that you need urgent help.

  • Breathing Space: Call 0800 83 85 87 for free, confidential support if you are aged 16 or over and live in Scotland. Open from 6pm–2am on weekdays and continuously from 6pm Friday–6am Monday.
  • Samaritans: Call 116 123 free, at any time, for confidential emotional support.
  • Shout: Text SHOUT to 85258 for free, confidential support, 24 hours a day.
  • SANEline: Call 0300 304 7000, daily from 4pm–10pm, for specialist emotional support.
  • PAPYRUS HOPELINE247: Call 0800 068 4141 or text HOPE to 88247, available 24 hours a day for young people experiencing thoughts of suicide, or anyone concerned about a young person.
  • CALM: Call 0800 58 58 58, daily from 5pm–midnight, for anyone aged 18 or over affected by suicide or suicidal thoughts.
  • Childline: Call 0800 1111, available 24 hours a day for children and young people under 19.
  • Switchboard LGBT+ Helpline: Call 0800 0119 100, daily from 10am–10pm, offering support to LGBTQIA+ people.
  • SAMH: Call 0344 800 0550 for information about mental health support and services in Scotland.

All of these services are there to listen without judgement and help you find appropriate support. Reaching out can feel difficult, but you do not need to wait for a counselling appointment if you need help now.
